EDVARD KSTROPF // ZLE OkO Split EP:

ZŁE OKO / the EVIL EYE is the one-woman project of Olga23 from Warsaw (PL), industrial/punk graphic artist, author of collages and former bassist of DNO (a downtempo punk), who currently lives in Oslo. This is digital agony and apocalypse, drone downtempo, the cawing of crows. Last year, EVIL EYE made her debut with "Cicuta", where echoes of early 90s industrial are mixed with conceptual, feminist anarcho-punk from Crass Records, and a uniquely Polish element – especially in the lyrics, filled with mediaeval pagan motifs and the stench of witches burned at the stake. The sound layer is dominated by ghoulish samples from YouTube and authoritarian broadcasting stations, such as the Polish state TV. This is Złe Oko’s response to the darkness of the Polish Middle Ages – which seem to have made a contemporary comeback. In her new productions, Olga23 veers towards shamanic, dark trap at the same time exploring the depths of dubbed bass of sampled didgeridoo.

EDVARD KSTROPF is the pseudonym of LordMih, who spent the last 10+ years playing the guitar with Super Girl & Romantic Boys and co-producing their songs. His musical biography is much longer, though – in the early 1990s he was associated with the legendary Kuyavian industrial circles, oscillating between Ciechocinek, Toruń and Włocławek. His first band was Insane, playing a metal version of hardcore with broken rhythms. At the turn of the 21st century, LordMih lived in various squats in Łódź, where – with members of 19 Wiosen – he founded Lord: a performative band combining darkness and joy, satanism and electroindustrial, black metal and elements of post rock and horror disco (their album was released by Zgniłe Mięso Records). Even after joining SGRB, he kept creating darknoise electronica under the moniker Normal, he played with Olga23 in DNO (industrial sludge punk) and with Karol Suka in Street City Nomads (acid punk). His new tracks, published as EDVARD KSTROPF, resound with echoes of the Berlin digital hardcore scene from the 1990s, experimental electronica from Japan, conceptual breakcore in the style of Igorr, raw glitch sounds and black metal aura. Only the subject of his music hasn’t changed over the years: the destruction of civilization, currently visible to the naked eye.
